JX Advanced Metals, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC and Capcom were selected as Nikkei 225 constituents, while Kioxia surged on higher memory prices. The Nikkei 225 extended its gains substantially, with buying concentrated in AI and semiconductor-related stocks.
In the regular review of Nikkei 225 constituents, JX Advanced Metals, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC and Capcom were selected for inclusion, effective 1 October. This prompted expectations of demand from funds seeking to track the Nikkei 225’s performance.
Kioxia Holdings surged against the backdrop of developments involving Micron Technology, a major US semiconductor memory producer. Reports that Micron would expand its HBM production capacity and SanDisk’s announcement that it would be added to the S&P 100 were also seen as supporting the market.
The Nikkei 225 extended its gains substantially today. Renewed expectations of interest-rate hikes following strong US employment data and a rise in the SOX Index supported the market, while buying in AI and semiconductor-related stocks stood out. The pace of gains also eased at times in the afternoon.
Among individual stocks, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC was bought on the back of trading catalysts and was affected by the same-day changes to the Nikkei 225 constituents. Kioxia rose sharply from the previous day, while price movements in Raksul and other stocks were also reported.
