KFC announced that it will expand nationwide sales of Original Chicken Burgers from 14 October. The burger has been reworked with chicken thigh instead of the previous chicken breast and finished using a new preparation method, while a premium version will also be launched at the same time.
Japan KFC announced that it will begin nationwide sales at all stores from 14 October of its Original Chicken Burgers, which had previously been available only in selected regions. The initial sales took place in Kanagawa Prefecture and selected other regions in March 2026, and the company decided to expand nationwide following a response that exceeded expectations. Details of dedicated announcements and the official release are available through the press release and official website. Information has also been provided on the launch timing and availability in regions other than some of the locations covered by the rollout.
For the new product, the previous chicken breast was replaced with chicken thigh to provide a richer taste. The preparation method was also described as having been “reworked from the ground up.” In addition to the previous burger made with boneless Original Chicken, the lineup will include 4 varieties: Red Hot Sauce, Cheese, Teriyaki and Original. A more indulgent “Original Chicken Burgers Premium” will also be offered.
The Premium version adds a special sauce, thick-cut bacon and a fried egg, highlighting its greater volume and special appeal. Original Chicken Burgers are burgers made with regular boneless Original Chicken. In addition to the Premium version, 4 other burger varieties and 2 Twister varieties are listed in the lineup. Boneless Original Chicken will also be sold separately.
Comments on social media included “Juicy with thigh meat” and “A showdown with McDonald’s?”, reflecting the response to the announcement of the nationwide rollout.
