Posts suggesting that the Huawei founder’s family may have fled abroad were reportedly posted on social media. There has been no official announcement, and Taiwanese media have added that there is no evidence.
Information suggesting that the family of the founder of Huawei, one of China’s leading technology companies, may have fled abroad appeared on social media on the night of 11 September in posts purporting to come from an insider. Related information was posted afterward, but its source remains unknown and its credibility remains uncertain.
The posts included claims that contact had been lost with members of Ren Zhengfei’s (任正非) family, as well as descriptions of a minivan said to have departed from the Ren residence, but no official records or video evidence were provided. In addition, signs in video footage purportedly showing the area around Huawei’s headquarters were difficult to identify, making the location where the events allegedly occurred uncertain.
Ren Zhengfei (任正非) is a highly regarded business leader in China and was previously subject to sanctions amid tensions between the United States and China. A major Taiwanese media outlet reported the information while adding that there was “no evidence,” but no official announcement has been made at this point.
The information has spread worldwide while its credibility remains unresolved, and attention is focused on whether further information or an official announcement will emerge.
