Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei said that the US maritime blockade and military operations were the main obstacles to fully resuming safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He indicated that Oman and Iran had reached a basic agreement on a temporary passage route, while stressing that a US suspension of the blockade and military operations was a precondition.
At a press conference on 10 August local time, spokesman Baghaei said that the US maritime blockade and military operations were the main obstacles to fully resuming safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Regarding the situation in the strait, he explained that it had not arisen from differences of opinion between Iran and Oman. He said the two countries had reached a basic agreement on a temporary passage route for commercial vessels and were continuing discussions on parts of a joint statement.
He further stressed that the conditions for a full resumption would not be in place unless the US halted the blockade and military operations. He said the blockade could not be lifted through diplomatic means alone, and stated that Iran would make comprehensive use of both military and diplomatic means.
