A generative AI course for small and medium-sized construction companies was held, featuring exercises directly applicable to day-to-day operations. The report covered demonstrations involving schedule management, 3D conversion of drawings and automatic transcription of design documents, with 23 people participating.
On 7 October 2026, ネクストビルダーズ株式会社 held “Using Generative AI for Small and Medium-Sized Construction Companies (Practical Applications)” for member companies of the General Incorporated Association Tokyo Small and Medium-Sized Construction Industry Association. The course was attended by 23 people, including company managers and operational staff, who learned practical ways to use generative AI.
The course exercises included a demonstration using the latest AI agent to identify the required processes from a schedule and check the dates, a demonstration of creating a 3D model from a 2D design drawing to make explanations easier to understand, and an exercise in reading names, specifications and quantities from extensive design-document PDFs and transcribing them into an Excel template. Participants also carried out an exercise in automatically compiling emergency contacts, including police stations, fire stations and medical institutions, based on a site address.
As part of the security measures, the course explained internal rules for using AI and handling information, emphasizing the need for human review rather than adopting outputs as they are. Participants exchanged views on both the convenience and risks of AI, creating an opportunity to consider its use in day-to-day operations.
In the questionnaire, 11 people responded. While respondents expressed expectations for applying AI to the preparation of materials in line with internal formats, they also raised concerns about employees’ ability to use the technology effectively and the risk of information leaks. Naoi Yuta (直井優太) emphasized the importance of dialogue to consider both the convenience and dangers of AI.
