Major restaurant operator Zensho Holdings is pursuing global supply-chain development and business expansion, centered on MMD, a business model under which it handles everything from raw-material procurement through manufacturing, logistics and sales in-house. It aims to realize an SPA-style model in line with its corporate philosophy of eradicating hunger and poverty.
The foundation of Zensho’s strength in the restaurant market is its integrated business model, known as MMD, under which it plans and operates everything from raw-material procurement through manufacturing, logistics and sales. This is analyzed as giving the company the power to outpace its competitors.
Zensho is likened to Fast Retailing’s specialty retailer of private-label apparel model, or SPA, and aims to build a global supply chain through a similar integration, while pursuing greater scale and integrated business operations.
At the same time, the company aims to realize its corporate philosophy of “eradicating hunger and poverty,” positioning the resolution of social issues through global expansion as part of its business strategy.
