ITOKI unveiled BOUNCEBACK, an underground shelter door, at the Crisis Management Industry Exhibition in Tokyo, highlighting its ability to withstand floods, earthquakes and bombing. The move indicates an aim to capture demand for business continuity planning (BCP) solutions from local governments and private-sector facilities.
ITOKI unveiled its new BOUNCEBACK underground shelter door to the press. The company introduced the model at the Crisis Management Industry Exhibition held in Tokyo and indicated that it aims to have it adopted by local governments and private-sector facilities.
The door is available in models with different functions, including airtightness and radiation shielding. Its weight ranges from 600 kilograms to 1,400 kilograms. The door is priced at tens of millions to hundreds of millions of yen.
ITOKI has manufactured specialty doors for vaults and laboratories for approximately 50 years, drawing on that expertise to develop the underground shelter door in 2024. The hinge area is covered to prevent users' hands from being caught when the door is opened or closed.
The head of the company's Specialty Equipment Sales Department estimated the market at approximately ¥60 billion to ¥100 billion and indicated that ITOKI aims to capture demand for business continuity plans (BCPs) from companies and local governments as natural disasters intensify.
