Tokyo Gas will hold the special exhibition “Modern Technology That Shaped an Era” at the Gas Museum from Saturday, 3 October 2026 to Friday, 25 December 2026. The venue will be the second-floor gallery of Gas Lamp Hall. Admission is free, and the museum will be open from 10:00 to 17:00. The museum is closed on Mondays, or on the following day when a Monday is a public holiday or substitute holiday.
The exhibition will trace, through nishiki-e woodblock prints and historical materials, how technologies introduced during the civilization and enlightenment period of the Meiji era developed in fields including city gas and changed people’s lives. With the cooperation of the Flour Milling Museum, it will also cover the history of Nisshin Flour Milling Co., Ltd., as well as the wheat culture of Kodaira and the history of Musashino udon. A section introducing Kodaira’s udon culture will also be set up as a special exhibition in “Life and Culture Hall.”
Major exhibits will include displays on the Meiji-era city gas business, technologies that spread during the Meiji period and Nisshin Flour Milling’s efforts. The exhibits will consist of nishiki-e prints, historical materials and physical artifacts, linking the development of food culture with the history of gas energy. Colorful photographs and prints, as well as physical items such as cooking utensils from the early Showa period, are also scheduled to be displayed.
