The approximately 140-hectare former Niigata Sunrise Golf Course site, regarded as a prime site in the Niigata East Port industrial zone, has been selected as a GX Strategic Area. This has increased the likelihood of receiving financial support for developing decarbonized power sources and is attracting attention as a catalyst for accelerating efforts to attract companies.
The approximately 140-hectare former Niigata Sunrise Golf Course site was selected in September as a GX Strategic Area, aimed at decarbonization and the development of next-generation industries. Designation as a GX Strategic Area means that the site can receive government support for developing decarbonized power sources, making it an attractive proposition for companies considering locating there.
Of the former site, eREX has announced plans to build a biomass power plant on approximately 38 hectares. However, no use has yet been decided for the remaining approximately 70% of the land. ENEOS, the landowner, is working with the prefectural government to attract companies, but says there is nothing it can officially discuss at this time.
Following the site's selection as a GX Strategic Area, the prefectural government plans to emphasize that the site can receive government financial support with the aim of becoming a decarbonized energy supply hub. An offshore wind power project is also under way nearby, and an influx of companies seeking decarbonized energy is expected.
Going forward, the prefectural government is considering holding seminars in cooperation with business organizations and exhibiting at trade shows for companies. It has indicated its intention to promote the use of the former site and attract companies.
