The owners' meeting of professional baseball clubs has selected Iijima Akimitsu (飯島彰己) as the next commissioner. He is scheduled to take office on 7 December. Current Commissioner Sakakibara Sadayuki (榊原定征) will leave office when his term expires.
The owners' meeting of professional baseball clubs decided on the 16th to appoint former Mitsui & Co., Ltd. president Iijima Akimitsu (飯島彰己), 75, as the next commissioner. Iijima Akimitsu (飯島彰己) is scheduled to take office as the 16th commissioner on 7 December, while current Commissioner Sakakibara Sadayuki (榊原定征) will leave office when his term expires.
After graduating from Yokohama National University, Iijima Akimitsu (飯島彰己) joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Following overseas assignments, he became president in April 2009 and has served as an adviser since June 2021. He also served as vice chairman of Keidanren from June 2015 to June 2019 and was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Grand Cordon, in 2023.
