The Nikkei 225 extended its decline at the morning close in Tokyo on the 20th. Selling in AI and semiconductor-related stocks led the market lower, with the index briefly falling by around ¥1,000.
The Nikkei 225 stood at ¥64,512.35 at the morning close, down ¥404.35, or 0.62%, from the previous day.
Selling in some major AI and semiconductor-related stocks set the tone, while rising long-term interest rates in Japan and the United States and a decline in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) also weighed on the market.
After opening lower, buying to cover short positions in Nikkei 225 futures became dominant, rapidly narrowing the Nikkei 225's decline toward the morning close.
