Attention this week will focus on remarks from senior Japanese and US central bank officials, with the yen expected to approach ¥160 to the dollar once again. The Nikkei 225 is expected to face pressure on the upside.
The week of 24–28 August will see close attention paid to remarks from senior Japanese and US central bank officials. On the 27th, BOJ Deputy Governor Himino (氷見野 良三) is scheduled to deliver remarks at the Financial and Economic Meeting in Saitama Prefecture, while FRB Chair Warsh is expected to speak at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, a US economic symposium taking place from the 27th to the 29th.
Demand to buy the dollar remains strong in the market, while heightened tensions in the Middle East are also a factor, and the yen is therefore considered likely to approach ¥160 to the dollar once again. Although expectations are building for an early BOJ rate hike, movements in the foreign exchange market remain uncertain.
