In 2026, the year of its 140th anniversary, Isetan will roll out commemorative promotions, videos and an anthology project. Initiatives featuring tartan as the symbolic motif are scheduled for sequential release as the company begins a new challenge aimed at the next 150 years.
Isetan will mark its 140th anniversary on 5 November 2026. To commemorate the occasion, it will launch an anniversary project across Isetan stores in Japan and overseas, under the theme “WAKU WAKU TO YOU!”.
The logo and statement for the 140th anniversary use tartan as the design motif, incorporating diagonal lines as a symbol. Tartan is intended to express the long-standing connection with customers and expectations for the future.
As part of the 140th anniversary initiatives, a total of 4 promotional videos featuring tartan as the main motif will be released. They will be distributed sequentially through a dedicated website, official social media accounts and in-store signage.
Submissions are being solicited for the anthology project “I Love My Own Shopping”. The submission period is from 4 to 24 November 2026. The work will be published and donated as a printed book combining newly written essays by the judges with previously published writing.
Isetan Shinjuku Store will hold anniversary initiatives from November 2026 through March 2027. On 5 November, 1,886 Gummitzels will be distributed free of charge, reflecting the year of the company’s founding. Other events planned include the installation of Big Tartan shopping bags, tartan decorations throughout the store, a Masterpiece Collection exhibition and illuminations.
A special website will be launched to provide updates on store information in Japan and overseas, limited-edition initiatives, events and digital content. Information on each store can be found on its official website.
