24 Hours Emergency Room returns after 13 years. The series will begin airing in the Monday 9 p.m. time slot on 12 October 2026, with Eguchi Yosuke (江口 洋介) and Matsushima Nanako (松嶋 菜々子) in the double lead roles. The first episode is scheduled to run 15 minutes longer.
24 Hours Emergency Room will return as its sixth series. Since its debut in 1999, the drama has gone through 5 series and specials, and this new installment will set a record for the most series of a contemporary drama. Production resumes approximately 13 years after 2013, while the reunion of Eguchi Yosuke (江口 洋介) and Matsushima Nanako (松嶋 菜々子) will come approximately 16 years after their previous co-starring appearance.
The theme of the new series is depicting what must not be lost amid changing times. It will address subjects including workplace reforms, generational differences and choices concerning life, while also touching on the realities of securing staff and budget shortages at the medical front line. Through clashes between the values of young doctors and those of veteran generations, the story will explore the essence of being a doctor.
Eguchi Yosuke (江口 洋介) will reprise his role as the solitary emergency physician Kazuo Shindo, while Matsushima Nanako (松嶋 菜々子) will reprise her role as emergency physician Kaede Kojima. New changes will emerge in the relationship between the two, and their preparations to return to the front line and growth as actors have also been discussed. Scenes from filming show them returning to their roles once again in scrubs.
A new teaser visual has been unveiled, visually expressing Dr. Shindo's and Dr. Kojima's trust and resolve. The new creative team consists of screenwriter Tanabe Mitsuru (田辺 満), producer Adachi Ryotaro (足立遼太朗) and director Yanagisawa Ryosuke (柳沢凌介).
As for streaming information, free streaming of the previous first and second series on TVer is scheduled to begin on 26 August. Further updates are anticipated ahead of the broadcast beginning on 12 October.
