Following the moves in U.S. stocks, today's Tokyo market was expected to see buying interest in a series of news items, including And ST's first-half profit growth, Star Mica HD's nine-month cumulative profit growth and Nitto Denko's cancellation of treasury shares.
In yesterday's U.S. stock market, the Dow fell sharply while the Nasdaq edged higher, and the foreign exchange market traded around ¥157 to the dollar. Against this backdrop, today's Tokyo market was expected to focus on news including And ST's announcement that first-half operating profit rose 34.6% and Star Mica HD's disclosure that nine-month cumulative operating profit was up 67.4%.
It was also reported that Suruga Bank had revised up its earnings and dividend forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 2027, while Nitto Denko announced that it would cancel treasury shares equivalent to 2.28% of shares outstanding. Ryoka Koki and Tsukishima HD announced a management integration, and related stocks, particularly those listed on the TSE Standard market, were expected to attract interest. It was also reported that Icom and LIMNO had reached a basic agreement to establish a joint venture.
Meanwhile, some stocks, including ERI HD, NISSHA, Members, Nidec, Pickles HD, Techno Alpha, Kiyosu Ryutsu and CSHD, were expected to remain weak. Given the current phase of the stock market, movements were expected to diverge among stocks depending on the details of the announcements.
