A major global outage occurred in Salesforce’s core service, “Salesforce Services,” affecting Japanese companies as well. Repeated outages were reported from late afternoon onward, and PayPay’s inquiry form was also confirmed to have become unavailable before signs of recovery were reported.
Salesforce, the U.S. provider of CRM and other services, suffered a major global outage beginning around the evening of 16 September Japan time, according to reports. The company’s status page said that the outage had affected more than 1,000 “Salesforce Services” instances from around 4:50 p.m. and was still ongoing as of 7:50 p.m. Impacts were also reported in Japan, including information that users of customer companies such as PayPay “may be unable to use various inquiry forms.”
PayPay, one of the companies using the service, announced the same day that some form-related services might become unavailable because of the Salesforce system outage. Salesforce explained that increased load had reduced its request-processing capacity. It was also reported that the company had successfully tested a fix by 7:56 p.m. and begun deploying it to all affected environments.
An additional report issued in the early hours of 17 September stated that the outage had been resolved, and ITmedia NEWS added an update on the recovery. Overall, the global-scale outage appeared to be moving toward resolution, with affected companies working to restore operations.
