The Nikkei 225 rose ¥115 in the morning session, with Tokyo Electron, Advantest and Lasertec among the stocks making the largest contributions. While firm South Korean stocks have boosted confidence in the Tokyo market, the market will be closed tomorrow and concerns about the U.S. midterm elections remain.
The Nikkei 225 was up ¥115 as of 1:50 p.m., with Tokyo Electron, Advantest and Lasertec making the largest contributions. Meanwhile, Kioxia Holdings, Recruit Holdings and SCREEN Holdings were the top negative contributors. By sector, glass and ceramics products, foods, electric power and gas, land transportation, and pharmaceuticals recorded the largest gains.
After South Korea's KOSPI turned higher, the Tokyo market also continued to trade firmly, prompting views that confidence was returning. However, the Tokyo market's closure tomorrow and the impact of the U.S. midterm elections were seen as risk factors, restraining aggressive buying.
Against this backdrop, the Nikkei 225 remained in positive territory, although views were expressed that upside momentum could weaken at times. The Nikkei 225 is expected to move according to developments in individual stocks and sectors.
