Genki GDC has surpassed 200 stores in Japan. The company is accelerating growth through the integration of upstream resources and a two-top leadership structure, including the opening of the Soka-Shinden store and its planned entry into the basement of Gotanda TOC.
Genki Global Dining Concepts (Genki GDC) announced that its total number of stores in Japan across all brands, including Uobei, has reached 200. The Soka-Shinden store opened on 29 August, bringing the combined total for all domestic brands to a new milestone. The company has also decided to open a location on the first basement floor of Gotanda TOC, accelerating its expansion into station-front and upper-floor sites in central Tokyo.
Organizationally, the company changed its name to Genki GDC and is advancing governance reforms under Shinmei Holdings (HD). In April 2025, Fujio Masuzo (藤尾 益造) became representative director and president, establishing a two-top structure with Chairman Fujio Masuo (藤尾 益雄) and President Fujio Masuzo (藤尾 益造). This has put in place an organization overseeing the procurement of rice and produce and the securing of seafood resources from upstream, strengthening its ability to respond to surging raw-material costs.
Genki GDC's strengths lie in its conveyorless, all-made-to-order restaurant model and the optimization of its cost structure through upstream integration. By reducing waste and consistently serving sushi freshly hand-formed after orders are placed, the company is lowering food and labor costs. It is also improving its ability to open in buildings and on upper floors in central Tokyo, achieving high sales per tsubo in urban areas including Shibuya, Shin-Okubo and Ueno.
The planned opening in the basement of Gotanda TOC is intended to capture both weekday lunch demand from office workers and weekend demand from families. Even in high-rent areas, the company aims to achieve profitability as an urban-format restaurant by taking advantage of the rent efficiency of a basement location. Performance has been strong, with August 2026 existing-store sales reaching 107.6% of the prior-year level, and revenue for the fiscal year ending March 2027 forecast at ¥103.0 billion.
