The third-generation all-new CLA has launched in Japan, with the CLA180 priced at ¥7,426,000 and expected to approach ¥8 million with options. The overall concept, including the adoption of a new platform and the later addition of a BEV, was introduced.
Mercedes-Benz has launched the third-generation all-new CLA, with the Japanese lineup centered on the CLA180 and CLA220. At 4,730 mm long and 1,835 mm wide, it is larger than its predecessor, and uses the same MMA platform for both internal-combustion and BEV models.
The CLA200 is a BEV, while the CLA180 and CLA220 are offered as internal-combustion hybrids. They use the newly developed M252 engine and motor, paired with an 8-speed DCT. The evolution of MB OS and the adoption of the MBUX Superscreen were among the highlighted infotainment updates.
The test vehicle was equipped with numerous options, including leather trim, the AMG Line and 19-inch wheels. The total price was ¥7,426,000 and was expected to reach approximately ¥7,734,000 with additions such as Warranty Plus. Comments also addressed the hot daytime test conditions and rear-seat space, with the impression that the CLA feels strongly oriented toward two occupants.
In terms of driving feel, the combination of the new hybrid system and firm suspension should leave little to complain about in everyday use, although some interior and design details drew mixed reactions. Overall, the evolution of the body design, aerodynamic performance and onboard technology was emphasized.
