The Nikkei Stock Average was trading approximately ¥410 above the previous day’s level on the morning of the 18th, with buying dominant from the start of the session. It rose as much as ¥715.63 at 9:19 a.m. before its gains moderated. The dollar-yen exchange rate was trading in the low ¥156 range.
Among Nikkei constituents, Lasertec, ADVANTEST, Mitsui Kinzoku, IBIDEN and SUMCO were among the top gainers. Nitori Holdings, LY Corporation, Nissui, Kansai Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power were among the top decliners.
Over the following 24 hours, active buying was expected to remain limited ahead of a press conference by Bank of Japan Governor Ueda, with the market’s upside expected to remain constrained.
