The Japan Institute of Logistics Systems (JILS) held the inaugural meeting of the Chief Logistics Officer Collaboration Promotion Council (J-CLOP) at Tokyo Big Sight on 10 September, launching the initiative’s full-scale activities. A total of 157 people from 126 companies participated, helping to build a professional network through presentations and information exchange.
JILS held the inaugural meeting of its newly established J-CLOP at Tokyo Big Sight, formally launching its role as a platform for strengthening collaboration between specified shippers and chief logistics officers under the Act on the Optimization of Physical Distribution.
Before the opening, JILS Vice Chairman Ono Yasushi (大野泰) said that “logistics is social infrastructure, and we must expand the circle of collaboration to promote reform in areas for cooperation,” emphasizing the significance of the meeting. Government officials, including Masaoka Takashi (正岡孝) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, then stressed the importance of regulatory reform and collaboration.
The presentations defined the role of the chief logistics officer as a “professional who contributes to enhancing corporate value,” with the aim of achieving supply chain sustainability through company-wide initiatives. An information-exchange roundtable was held in the second half of the meeting, allowing participating companies to exchange views.
Going forward, JILS plans to continue networking, research and seminars through separate groups for shipper members and co-creation members. An information session on submitting medium- to long-term plans and an information-exchange meeting are scheduled for October.
