The domestic fashion and beauty-related “SVT Index” reported on 2 November that the combined market capitalization of its constituent stocks was approximately ¥45 trillion, down approximately ¥57.8 billion from the previous day. Department-store and retail stocks all rose, with Matsuya surging more than 6% for a second consecutive day, including the previous trading day.
October sales, including those at the Ginza flagship store, rose 9.4% year on year, while tax-free sales increased approximately 3% year on year. Sales to domestic customers rose 7.8%, and jewelry and watches grew 22%, indicating firm demand for high-priced goods.
Meanwhile, Ryohin Keikaku disclosed a potential customer information leak involving up to approximately 27.26 million records. The information potentially affected consists of email addresses, dates of birth and gender; the company said that credit card information and other such data were not included.
Matsuya made the largest contribution to the day’s gains, while Ryohin Keikaku made the largest contribution to the decline. Although department-store stocks generally remained firm, investors focused on factors including individual earnings results and the risk of information leaks.
