Anthropic, the US artificial intelligence developer, has announced an initial public offering in Japan. It is expected to raise up to approximately ¥550 billion domestically, with the US listing targeted for mid-November. A share offering in the domestic market remains to be decided.
Anthropic has disclosed that it will raise up to $3.5 billion (approximately ¥550 billion) in Japan through an initial public offering. This could become the largest-ever amount raised domestically in an IPO by a foreign company. The number of shares to be offered is expected to be decided later.
Retail investors have been told that they will be able to purchase the shares through securities firms arranging the domestic offering. Anthropic is believed to be targeting a mid-November US listing, after filing a prospectus for the IPO in the US in late October.
Global IPO proceeds could reach a record level, including deals involving US companies such as SpaceX, and are expected to exceed $1 trillion (approximately ¥16 trillion). The scale of the combined domestic and overseas offering is drawing attention.
