House Foods Group Inc. published its seventh survey on food waste. While awareness reached 99.4%, the results showed that the rates of using ingredients up and storing them properly after shopping remain low. The company also published original recipes for using familiar ingredients without waste and reported its support for related events.
The results of the newly published seventh survey showed that awareness of food waste reached 99.4%, while food waste was found to occur in approximately 80% of households. The findings highlighted that widespread awareness has not translated into specific actions after purchase.
Although awareness before shopping has taken hold, the rates of using ingredients up when cooking and making a point of storing them properly remain low. Ways to use food up were identified as an issue requiring further attention.
Cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, tofu and natto were among the foods frequently discarded. The analysis indicated that busy daily routines, which make it difficult to use ingredients as planned, are a contributing factor.
Based on the survey results, the company published original recipes that encourage children to use ingredients up while having fun, and strengthened its support for household action by cooperating with food education events organized by No Peko Labo.
