*Once You Open the Door*, the feature-length commercial film debut of director Katagiri Eriko (片桐絵梨子), won the Grand Prize at the 3rd Japanese Horror Film Awards. The film will be released nationwide on 8 January 2027, including at Theatre Shinjuku and Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro, and stars Motola Serena (モトーラ世理奈).
The story depicts the world opened up by the memories and instincts of Miki, who claims to have been “bitten by a wolf,” unfolding as a dark fantasy in which everyday life and reality intersect. The film aims to create a visual world where reality and fantasy intermingle, drawing audiences into a strange fairy-tale world.
The film’s director of photography, Ashizawa Akiko (芦澤明子), is one of Japan’s leading cinematographers and has received recognition at Cannes. She is expected to bring a new light to the film’s visual expression.
The poster visual depicts a wolf and Miki, while the trailer presents a mysterious world featuring Miki collapsing and a heart turning red. Taniyama Hiroko (谷山浩子)’s “Ginga Tsushin” has been selected as the theme song, adding color to the world of the film.
