A breast cancer screening awareness leaflet medically overseen by Professor Kashiwagi Shinichiro (柏木伸一郎) of the Osaka Metropolitan University Graduate School of Medicine began being distributed through hair salons and beauty salons nationwide in conjunction with October’s Pink Ribbon Month.
ADJUVANT HOLDINGS CO.,LTD. has created a breast cancer screening awareness tool as part of its awareness activities and begun distributing it through hair salons and beauty salons nationwide. Medical oversight is provided by Professor Kashiwagi Shinichiro (柏木伸一郎) of the Department of Breast Surgery at the Osaka Metropolitan University Graduate School of Medicine, with the aim of providing accurate medical information.
Although the lifetime incidence of breast cancer among Japanese women is estimated at approximately 1 in 8, the screening participation rate remains below 50%, highlighting the challenge of reaching people without symptoms. This initiative aims to develop an effective way of communicating information by using salons as an everyday setting.
The initiative is intended to create a new mechanism for promoting understanding of breast cancer screening and encouraging screening participation through information provided by trusted staff in hair salons and beauty salons, spaces people visit regularly.
Comments from the medical supervisor emphasized the importance of communicating with healthy people who are difficult to reach through communications from medical institutions alone. They also outlined a policy of having medical institutions and salons work together to help address social issues in the future.
