According to the “Ranking of Owner-Run Companies Most Likely to Go Private” compiled by the Diamond editorial team, Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical decided to delist following a management buyout. The ranking covers 1,018 companies with market capitalizations of ¥10 billion or more, with the TOP 30 appearing on the next page.
In the ranking of owner-run companies considered likely to go private, Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical announced a management buyout in January 2026, and the asset management company of its founding-family president launched a tender offer. As a result, the company delisted in May of the same year.
The disclosure materials cite the pressure to manage with shareholders in mind and deliver short-term profits and dividends as long as the company remains listed, and identify the removal of listing-related costs as a reason for going private. The company says it aims to improve profitability by expanding in overseas markets and passing on higher prices for over-the-counter drugs.
