Net assets of publicly offered equity investment trusts fell 1% month on month to ¥205.2274 trillion, declining for the first time in four months as stock markets fell. Meanwhile, net fund inflows totaled ¥2.6445 trillion for the month, marking 38 consecutive months of net inflows.
According to an overview of publicly offered equity investment trusts as of July released by the Japan Investment Management Association, net assets of publicly offered equity investment trusts excluding ETFs fell 1% month on month to ¥205.2274 trillion. The decline, the first in four months, is believed to have been driven by weak domestic and overseas stock markets.
In stock market performance during the month, the Nikkei 225 fell 8%, declining for the first time in four months. Falls in AI and semiconductor-related stocks weighed on the market, while the Nasdaq Composite also fell 3%. Meanwhile, net fund inflows totaled ¥2.6445 trillion for the month, marking 38 consecutive months of net inflows.
At a press conference, Chair Hishida Yoshio (菱田賀夫) said that inflows were mainly from “people who invest consistently.” He indicated that there was still a certain level of buying during market declines, even when price movements were volatile.
