The Japan Biotechnology Council conveys industry views on the challenges and prospects of the drug discovery ecosystem to policymakers. Against the backdrop of Basic Policy 2026, expanded support for late-stage development is needed.
The Japan Biotechnology Council is an industry association established in 2009 and incorporated as a general incorporated association in 2019. It currently has 45 regular members and 10 supporting members, and plays a role in conveying industry views to policymakers through opportunities to present its views at subcommittees of the Central Social Insurance Medical Council.
Based on Basic Policy 2026, approved by the Cabinet in July 2026, budget allocations to the biotechnology sector are expected to ramp up ahead of year-end. The council has been given opportunities to speak about the challenges and prospects of the drug discovery ecosystem.
