Hitachi Rail has signed a long-term contract with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) for a next-generation rail signaling system. Over the 30-year contract term, Hitachi Rail will provide an integrated service from development through maintenance, with the contract valued at €1.3 billion (approximately ¥230 billion).
At InnoTrans, a rail technology trade fair held in Berlin, Hitachi Rail announced that it had won an order from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) for a next-generation signaling system. The announcement was made on the 22nd local time, and Hitachi will install the signaling system across ÖBB’s rail network.
The contract has an extended term of 30 years. It is valued at €1.3 billion, covering an integrated service from development through maintenance.
The new system will update points and signals to next-generation models using digital technology, and will be used to manage operations across ÖBB’s rail network.
The project won by Hitachi Rail, a Hitachi subsidiary, is considered one of the company’s significant rail signaling system contracts in the European market.
