China's intelligent connected vehicles are moving beyond the demonstration stage toward large-scale commercial deployment. The industry ecosystem and public-road demonstrations are steadily advancing through the event that opened in Beijing.
At the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference held in Beijing on 21 October, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that intelligent connected vehicles were moving from the demonstration-testing stage to large-scale commercial deployment. An industry ecosystem integrating advances in core technologies, mass production of complete vehicles and demonstration testing across a range of use cases is taking shape. Progress in integrating high-performance semiconductor chips with smart cockpits and driver-assistance systems is continuing, while key components such as LiDAR and intelligent x-by-wire chassis are being installed in mass-produced vehicles. Demonstration operations are also steadily advancing in areas including autonomous taxis, smart logistics, and mining and airports.
The total length of test and demonstration roads nationwide has now reached approximately 57,000 km, with more than 60,000 smart devices installed and cumulative test-driving distance exceeding 220 million km. The installation rate of Level 2 (L2) combined driver-assistance functions in new passenger vehicles has exceeded 70%, and public-road driving tests for the first group of Level 3 (L3)-capable vehicle models have begun in selected regions.
These technologies and demonstrations are also expected to support commercial deployment across diverse fields, including autonomous taxis, smart logistics, and mining and airports.
