KDDI and OKINAWA CELLULAR TELEPHONE COMPANY will substantially overhaul au Overseas Unlimited in February 2027. Advance reservations will no longer be required, and users will be able to access data services after arriving overseas without activating the service on site. Charges and data usage will also be viewable in the app.
KDDI Corporation and OKINAWA CELLULAR TELEPHONE COMPANY announced that they will renew au Overseas Unlimited on 1 February 2027. Subscribers to eligible au plans will no longer need to make an advance reservation before traveling or activate the service after arriving overseas.
The au Overseas Unlimited app will also be enhanced, allowing users to check their charges and data usage in real time both while traveling and after returning. Subscribers to eligible plans will also be able to check in the app how many days of their monthly complimentary benefit have been used and how many remain.
Data usage will be unlimited, but speeds will be capped at up to 5 Mbps after more than 10 GB is used per day. The pricing structure will be revised to eliminate the previous differences based on whether an advance reservation was made and on the region, with a uniform daily rate of ¥980 in all regions. Multiple plans are included among the eligible au plans.
Users of au, UQ mobile and povo1.0 who are not eligible will need to activate the service after arriving overseas. Roaming must be turned on in the device settings, and consumption tax will not be added separately.
