The Nikkei Average extended its decline in Tokyo. Panasonic revised its earnings forecast upward and Lasertec raised its order outlook, while Kyocera fell sharply after reporting lower profit in the latest quarter.
The Nikkei Average extended its decline on 2 November in the Tokyo stock market, ending trading ¥208 lower than the previous day at ¥63,081. It widened its losses at the open at one point, but showed signs of recovery in the afternoon without managing to establish itself in positive territory. Trading value on the TSE Prime Market was approximately ¥7.6400 trillion, and selling spread at times, particularly among AI-related stocks.
Panasonic Holdings rose in the afternoon after revising its previous operating profit forecast of ¥590 billion upward to ¥710 billion in the day's top news. The increase in demand related to AI infrastructure was reported to have lifted its profit outlook.
Lasertec rebounded sharply, raising its order outlook for the fiscal year ending June 2027 from the previous ¥300–400 billion to ¥400–500 billion. First-quarter operating profit was ¥15.8 billion, down 41% year on year and below market expectations, but the higher order outlook was viewed as a buying catalyst.
Kyocera fell sharply after operating profit declined 29% in the latest quarter. Second-quarter sales were ¥552.954 billion, while net profit declined by ¥12.854 billion. There was no downward revision to the full-year forecast, and the resilience of demand for components for AI- and semiconductor-related markets drew attention.
