An event to revive Phoenix, a large disco that operated in Kitakyushu in the 1980s, will be held at the New Building of IZUTSUYA in Kokurakita Ward on the afternoon of 9 October. Admission is limited to people aged 50 and over, and DJs are scheduled to play mainly music from the 1970s. The event is expected to open with ABBA’s “Dancing Queen.”
The event was conceived by Rokori (75), who works as a YouTuber in Kitakyushu and writes a column titled “Looking Up at the Sky” for this newspaper. Attendance last year was approximately 350, and the event is expected to once again provide a place for people of the same generation to gather.
Phoenix was once one of the largest discos in Kyushu, attracting customers from around Fukuoka City and nearby areas, but its short operating period led it to be called a “legendary disco.” This year’s event aims to recreate the atmosphere of the 1970s and provide a place for interaction among people of the same generation.
The event will be held in two sessions, at 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Admission is ¥3,000 in advance and ¥4,000 at the door. For inquiries, contact the executive committee secretariat at Nishinippon Shimbun Advertising. Tickets are also scheduled to be sold through ticket agencies.
