NANOホールディングス has transitioned to a holdings structure centered on the investment business. This follows the reorganization of the existing group structure, under which the drug discovery business is pursued by a subsidiary, and its formal transition in April 2026.
NANOホールディングス was originally a biotechnology venture established in 1996 as ナノキャリア. It conducted research aimed at commercializing drug-delivery-system (DDS) formulations for small-molecule anticancer drugs and listed on the Mothers market in 2008. The company subsequently shifted its business policy in January 2023 toward nucleic acid drug discovery and positioned itself as a venture company focused on messenger RNA (mRNA) drug discovery, based on the pipeline of アキュルナ, which it absorbed through a merger in 2020. Since December 2025, it has pursued a policy of strengthening its investment business, and its transition to a holdings structure in April 2026 established a group structure centered on the investment business.
The market environment and background include growing global interest in the technological capabilities, intellectual property, human resources and business foundations of Japanese companies. Domestic policies are promoting the strengthening of drug discovery capabilities and the attraction of overseas capital, while government support is helping to create the conditions for Japanese technology to be developed in global markets. At the same time, securing growth capital can be difficult with domestic capital alone in some cases because development requires long periods and substantial funding, making the establishment of systems for overseas expansion and business partnerships a challenge. NANOホールディングス says it will make investment decisions based on a comprehensive assessment of technological and intellectual property competitiveness, business potential in global markets, management structures and exit potential, and will support not only the provision of funding but also the strengthening of development strategies, manufacturing and quality, intellectual property, business partnerships and governance.
The company says its ultimate goal is to connect Japanese-originated technology with overseas investors, pharmaceutical companies and operating companies, and help develop it into companies and businesses capable of competing in global markets.
