According to the Flow of Funds Accounts released by the Bank of Japan, household financial assets stood at a record ¥2,519 trillion as of the end of June, with holdings of equities and investment trusts rising sharply. The year-on-year increase was driven in part by higher stock prices.
According to the Flow of Funds Accounts for the April-June quarter released by the Bank of Japan, household financial assets stood at ¥2,519 trillion as of the end of June, up 11.0% year on year and marking the largest increase in the comparable time series. The asset balance itself also reached its highest level since 2005, as buoyant stock markets pushed up the overall scale of household assets.
By category, equities and other securities rose 47.0% year on year to ¥486 trillion, while investment trusts increased 36.8% to ¥193 trillion, with both reaching record highs.
The results show that the sharp rise in stock prices lifted both the total value and balance of household financial assets, with the share of equities and investment trusts in asset portfolios standing out. Future trends are expected to depend on stock-price movements and whether investment activity continues.
