Sanyo Trading Co.,Ltd. achieved a substantial increase in profit through the third quarter, raising its full-year outlook on the back of an improved gross margin. Going forward, it aims for sustainable growth through a pragmatic pivoting strategy and proactive M&A.
Sanyo Trading Co.,Ltd. focuses on 4 markets: fine chemicals, industrial products, sustainability and life sciences, and achieved a substantial increase in profit in the third quarter of the fiscal year ending September 2026. The quality of the results, rather than just the headline figures, was considered important, and the company is said to have achieved its full-year operating profit target of ¥6.5 billion in 9 months.
Gross margin improved from 17.4% in the same period of the previous year to 17.7%, while the SG&A ratio declined from 11.8% to 11.6%. As a result, the operating margin reached 6.1%, exceeding the 5.1% target under SANYO VISION 2028.
While the impact of external factors cannot be ruled out entirely, the company has entered into contracts with many customers that pass changes in foreign exchange rates and raw material costs through to selling prices. It is viewed as having shifted to an earnings structure that is not excessively dependent on the external environment. The renewal of its core in-house-developed system and the use of AI are also cited as factors supporting a repeatable earnings structure.
Full-year operating profit has been revised upward to ¥7.5 billion. Sustainability is expected to post a temporary decline in profit due to the impact of large projects, but growth is expected over the medium to long term, with stable growth in the other segments expected to continue alongside a recovery in life sciences.
