Forvia is considering the sale of its Japanese subsidiary, Clarion Electronics, people familiar with the matter said. The potential sale is being pursued as part of efforts to reduce debt and streamline the business.
According to the people, who asked not to be identified, undisclosed discussions are under way and options for Clarion are being examined with advisers. Japanese companies and strategic buyers in Asia may show interest, they said.
The review is at an early stage, and a transaction may not materialize. Clarion Electronics develops in-vehicle displays and audio systems, cockpit electronics and ADAS products. Revenue in the first half of 2026 rose 13.7% year on year to €776.5 million, accounting for 7.4% of Forvia's total revenue.
Forvia has previously focused resources on higher-margin businesses, including autonomous driving and fuel-efficiency optimization, and has also agreed this year to sell its interiors business to Apollo Global Management. Its share price has fallen about 33% this year, bringing its market capitalization to approximately €1.8 billion.
