The Good Design Grand Award, hosted by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, a public interest incorporated foundation, has been announced, with YAMAHA CORPORATION's “EAD50 Drum Expansion Module with Dedicated Microphone” named the winning entry. The EAD50 was presented as a drum PA solution that captures the entire drum kit in high quality by attaching a sensor unit to the bass drum, while allowing intuitive control of mixing and effects at the player's fingertips. It was described as a product that shortens setup time and expands the range of expression in a variety of settings, including live performances, practice sessions and streaming.
Of the 5,111 entries reviewed, 1,484 received awards, and the top 5 entries in each of the 20 categories were selected for the “Good Design Best 100.” One Gold Award was then presented in each category, and the Grand Award was given to the entry judged to have the best design among the Gold Award winners. The chair of the judging committee was Jun Nakagawa (中川 淳), former chairman of Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten, while the vice chairs and other members of the judging committee handled the selection process.
