At a seminar hosted by the General Incorporated Foundation, Research Institute for Corporate Vitality, Tanabe Consulting presented practical considerations and case studies relating to serial M&A. The seminar was held on 5 October 2026.
Tanabe Consulting, one of Japan’s leading management consulting firms, held a seminar on “Key considerations for serial M&A to drive corporate growth” as part of the Next-Generation Corporate Competitiveness Study Group, hosted by the General Incorporated Foundation, Research Institute for Corporate Vitality. Tanio Wataru (丹尾 渉) of the company spoke at the seminar and explained the significance of serial M&A and practical considerations for implementing it.
The seminar positioned serial M&A as a management model that goes beyond one-off acquisitions by bringing multiple acquisitions together under a common strategy, capabilities and governance, expanding business scale and connecting it to group management. It emphasized the importance of establishing an integrated framework covering organization-building and strategy formulation through sourcing, execution and PMI.
The case studies covered key points to prioritize when making acquisitions, post-acquisition management structures and common pitfalls. They also addressed approaches including M&A strategies based on hypothetical scenarios for the growth strategy and the transition to a holding-company structure. The seminar presented practical knowledge on serial M&A aimed at helping mid-sized and small companies advance to the next stage of growth.
The seminar was set against the company group’s track record of supporting mid-sized and small companies and its view of serial M&A as a means of increasing corporate value. The company also stated its policy of continuing to support companies throughout Japan.
