In Tokyo, selling spread across AI-related and semiconductor-related stocks as expectations for growth in AI-related stocks waned in the US stock market. In the afternoon, investors bought back stocks that appeared attractively priced, gradually narrowing the decline.
SoftBank Group, which had announced a large-scale investment in OpenAI in the US market the previous day, also saw its stock price plunge at times. In response to intraday developments, the Nikkei average briefly fell by more than ¥800.
The move is believed to have been driven by trends in the US market and movements in AI and semiconductor stocks.
