The Japanese, UK and Italian governments-led GCAP has announced plans for 日本航空機産業振興株式会社 (JAIEC) and BAE Systems and Leonardo to advance next-generation fighter aircraft development through public-private cooperation.
The Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), jointly promoted by the Japanese, UK and Italian governments, has confirmed a framework under which domestic companies, including 日本航空機産業振興株式会社 (JAIEC), and BAE Systems and Leonardo will lead development in cooperation with private-sector companies.
The cooperation framework is intended to promote technology development for next-generation fighter aircraft and strengthen the industrial base through a division of roles between the public and private sectors. The parties involved indicated their intention to give the cooperation framework a more concrete form.
Going forward, the participating companies, including Japanese companies, and overseas companies are expected to work jointly in the areas of design, manufacturing, parts supply and technology development.
