SME Support Japan has opened applications for the 16th cohort of its FASTAR acceleration program and created a regional track for startups addressing regional challenges, accepting applications nationwide. An information session is scheduled to be held online on 6 November. The support program includes screening, a demo day and post-graduation support.
Applicants must generally have been founded within 5 years of the application, meaning on or after 1 April 2021, or not yet have been founded. An exception allows life sciences, deep tech and other businesses requiring clinical trials under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act to have been founded within 10 years. The program is intended for pre-seed, seed and early-stage companies.
Support includes assistance with business-plan development through ongoing mentoring, opportunities to raise funds and create partnerships through support events and a demo day, and post-graduation support. The 16th cohort differs from previous cohorts in having a regional track.
The application period runs from 20 October 2026 to 4 December at 12:00. An online application Q&A session will be held on 6 November via Zoom, with a video Q&A for the information session scheduled to take place.
