SK hynix has unveiled plans to invest a total of ₩54.3 trillion in new factories at Yongin Y2 and Cheongju M17. The investment, allocated as ₩35.2 trillion to Yongin Y2 and ₩19.1 trillion to Cheongju M17, was approved as a concrete step in the company's medium- to long-term investment strategy.
Yongin Y2 is positioned as a production hub for next-generation DRAM, including HBM, and will have a total floor area of approximately 1.13 million square meters. Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2027, with the first cleanroom expected to open in June 2029. The investment period is scheduled to run through October 2031.
Cheongju M17 is planned as a NAND factory to support demand for AI-oriented eSSDs. It will have a total floor area of approximately 680,000 square meters, with construction scheduled to begin in February 2027 and the first cleanroom expected to open in December 2028. The investment period is scheduled to run through April 2031.
The selection of the sites for both factories reflects the aim of coordinating with existing facilities and developing large-scale infrastructure. The company said it plans to accelerate construction by leveraging existing facilities at the Yongin Cluster and Cheongju Campus.
