Shocking reports say The Rock tried to promote his brother-in-law, Hiram Garcia, as a candidate for president of DC Films, while accounts from insiders shed light on Garcia’s rise and his current role. The circumstances surrounding the eventual appointment of different people as CEOs of DC Studios have also been reported.
The report says that, as of 2022, Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, sought to have the DC Films presidency change from Walter Hamada to his brother-in-law, Hiram Garcia, after Hamada’s departure. Garcia reportedly had been working around The Rock since a film shoot in 2002 and rose through the ranks to become president of production.
According to insiders, some viewed Garcia as lacking leadership ability, while others pointed to an exceptional promotion path from an “errand boy.” A source at Universal Pictures reportedly described Garcia’s rise as follows.
The article says The Rock, with the support of Seven Bucks Productions, sought the position after Hamada’s departure. With the actions of Discovery’s David Zaslav and Seven Bucks also involved, James Gunn and Peter Safran ultimately became co-CEOs of DC Studios, while Henry Cavill reportedly left the role of Superman.
Subsequent reports also said that Hiram Garcia had been working on the concept for Red One, but that another screenwriter was ultimately hired.
