BMW will launch the iX3 SUV, the first model under its next-generation Neue Klasse concept, in Japan on 22 July 2026. In addition to achieving a 906 km range in WLTC mode, it features next-generation technologies including a new control unit called Heart of Joy and a design focused on reducing environmental impact.
Germany’s BMW is promoting its next-generation Neue Klasse concept and is reportedly set to launch the iX3 SUV in Japan as its first model. The report highlights changes from the traditional image of BMW, including the vehicle’s range and the introduction of new technologies.
iX3 achieves a 906 km range in WLTC mode through a high-energy-density battery, low-resistance motors and a low-drag body with a Cd of 0.24. It is said to have the longest range of any BEV currently available in the Japanese market.
The new control unit, named Heart of Joy, oversees the drive system, vehicle control and energy recovery, and is designed to support future updates incorporating AI functions. Efforts are also being made to reduce environmental impact in the vehicle and production processes, and the Debrecen plant in Hungary is said to operate without fossil fuels.
Going forward, new models under the Neue Klasse concept are expected to be introduced, beginning with the iX3 and extending beyond BEVs. Evaluation through public-road testing of the Japanese-specification model is also scheduled.
