Kyushu FG estimated the economic impact of semiconductor-related activity across 3 southern Kyushu prefectures at approximately ¥13.8 trillion over the 10 years from 2022 to 2031. This is the first estimate of the economic impact spreading across the 3 prefectures alongside TSMC's expansion into Kikuyo, with the impact in Kumamoto Prefecture separately estimated at ¥11.19 trillion.
Kyushu Financial Group estimated that the semiconductor-related industrial cluster resulting from the expansion into Kikuyo by leading semiconductor foundry TSMC will generate an economic impact of approximately ¥13.8 trillion in the 3 southern Kyushu prefectures of Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Kagoshima over the 10 years from 2022 to 2031.
This is the first estimate for the 3 southern Kyushu prefectures. It is based on TSMC Kumamoto Fab 1 beginning mass production in December 2024 and construction of the adjacent Fab 2 beginning in September 2025. Kyushu FG had separately estimated the economic impact in Kumamoto Prefecture at approximately ¥1.119 trillion as of 2022.
