At an online event, speakers discussed a blueprint for corporate transformation that maps out operations, organisation and infrastructure starting with WHY. Atsushi Yazawa (矢澤篤志) explained the steps for turning core system renewal into transformation and the role of frontline process owners.
The event underscored the need to reconsider the true purpose of DX as corporate transformation. Atsushi Yazawa (矢澤篤志) spoke at the online event “TECH+ Seminar DX day for Executive 2026 Sep. How Should Organisations Change?—Rebuilding Operational Foundations, Decision-Making and DX.”
Drawing on his many years of experience at Casio Computer, Atsushi Yazawa (矢澤篤志) described his career leading overseas operations, introducing a global ERP system and standardising business processes by division. He explained that he now supports companies with operational reform and core system renewal.
Challenges common to Japanese companies include misaligned objectives and silos between departments, and it was pointed out that investment in digitalisation is not translating into operational transformation. The shortage of personnel capable of leading frontline processes is also serious. It was emphasised that the transformation structure needs to be led not only by the CIO and CDO, but also by process owners overseeing frontline operations.
Atsushi Yazawa (矢澤篤志) proposed a transformation design process in which “WHY” is defined first, followed by the design of 3 “WHAT” elements, before they are translated into systems. Although the specific content of the 3 WHAT elements is not detailed in the article, he stressed the importance of building an organisation capable of leading changes to business processes within its own division.
