A webinar will explain how lithium-ion batteries, considered the core of grid-scale battery storage, work and their cost structure. It will introduce the 4 components, namely the positive electrode, negative electrode, separator and electrolyte, as well as the price breakdown for fiscal 2024.
ジャパンブランディング株式会社 will hold a webinar for businesses and investors considering entering the grid-scale battery storage market, explaining the basic structure and cost structure of lithium-ion batteries. The company, which handles the planning, design and operation of battery storage systems, will provide information on GUS Technology's battery storage systems, for which it serves as the exclusive distributor in Japan, together with trends in the grid-scale battery storage market.
Lithium-ion batteries consist of a limited number of components: the positive electrode, negative electrode, separator and electrolyte. The combination of materials determines performance. The webinar will explain that there is no special magic involved, and that material selection and structural ingenuity are key.
The presentation will cover how batteries shuttle lithium ions back and forth, their long cycle life, and their lighter weight and fast-charging characteristics compared with lead-acid batteries. It will also note that the optimal choice varies depending on the application.
In fiscal 2024, grid-scale battery storage systems were priced at ¥54,000/kWh, comprising ¥41,000/kWh for the battery and ¥6,000/kWh for the PCS. The presentation will point out that fluctuations in material prices directly translate into uncertainty in long-term planning.
The event is scheduled for late September 2026, from 19:00 to 20:00, and will be delivered online via a Zoom webinar. Participation is free and requires advance registration. Maeda Yūkichi (前田雄吉) will give the presentation.
