Disney Cruise Line Japan, which will operate a Disney cruise departing from Japan, has announced the name of the ship currently under construction, targeting entry into service in fiscal 2028. The ship will be named Disney Imagination, and a plan has been presented for Tokyo International Cruise Terminal to serve as its port of departure and arrival.
The ship is expected to have gross tonnage of approximately 140,000 tons, about 1,250 cabins, passenger capacity of approximately 4,000 and a crew of approximately 1,500. The investment is expected to comprise ¥290 billion for the ship and ¥40 billion in contingency funds, based on assumed exchange rates of ¥165 to the euro and ¥155 to the dollar. The company is targeting the start of operations in fiscal 2028 and year-round operations in fiscal 2029.
The initial plan calls for voyages of approximately 2 to 4 nights, with fares expected to be in the ¥100,000 to ¥300,000 range per person per voyage. Target customers are families, young people and international visitors to Japan, with profitability expected from around the start of year-round operations.
Based in Maihama, the ship will offer Disney activities and entertainment on board and throughout the ship, as well as multiple cabin types and dining options. After entering service, it is expected to target annual revenue of approximately ¥100 billion and approximately 400,000 passengers a year. The launch of a second ship is also under consideration.
